Elliot Key and Pumpkin Key

January 25-27, 2017
After the "not actually getting to the Bahamas fiasco", we stayed one night at Dinner Key Mooring Field and then sailed across Biscayne Bay to Elliot Key. It was very strange to be able to hear our fridge pump again... you don't realize how loud the city is until you leave!
Hastings and I love the sandbar at Elliot Key!
Beautiful colors, Elliot Key sandbar (Hastings has found some muck to lay in)

The next day, we motored down to Pumpkin Key in Card Sound, North Key Largo.

Using our portable depth sounder to check the depths in Angelfish Creek. The chart has a few dicey areas, but we saw 7 foot depths and are planning on using this cut to the ocean for our Bahamas 2020 attempt
The next day, we motored down to Key Largo proper. We were passed by dozens of go-fast boats, but passed them when they all stopped for fuel! They were all wearing aviation headsets to talk to each other... I guess you can't talk over 12 million decibels of noise.

It's not the Bahamas, but it is nice to be home in Key Largo, where we adopted Hastings 11 years ago. We can always count on Key Largo for a fabulous sunset!

  1. The sunsets are fantastic. I guess we're not seeing as many sunrises posted because they're less glamorous or because you'd have to get up to actually take them.

    1. Getting up is the main problem. We also tend to have better cloudage at night.

  2. I suppose if you have to wait a few years to be able to finally head off to the Bahamas (2020, here we come!), then Eliot and Pumpkin Keys aren't too shabby of a place to pass the time.

    1. Yes, we can have some very exact sounding of Angelfish Creek in all conditions by 2020!
