Northbound: Cape Lookout to Beaufort, the Neuse River and Broad Creek Anchorage

We walked Hastings on the beach at Cape Lookout one last time. The winds were calm, the weekend boaters had left and the water was crystal clear. Very hard to leave!

Shells!

But leave we did and headed the 6.5 miles to Beaufort Inlet while Matt shared his growing animosity against power boaters. We headed up the Intracoastal and into Neuse River and actually raised the sails for a few hours.
Hastings always finds the coolest spot - breeze and shade!
We anchored in Broad Creek after nearly coming a cropper with several fishing boats with nets in the channel. Hastings got to go ashore. We returned to the boat, made dinner, drank wine and watched the sunset and the dolphins fish. It’s the middle of the summer, we are anchored in a creek and yet we are bug free with a cooling breeze. How do we get to be so lucky?

    1. I thought it would be fun to do a daily post while we were traveling every day. It's about to go back on the regular schedule though since we haven't moved the boat in two weeks! Hastings is adorable, and believe me, he knows it!

  2. One of the things I enjoyed the most about cruising with a dog is how excited our Sally was about exploring new places . . . and how many things I saw just because she needed to go to shore. And Ellen's right, you are a blogging machine these days!

    1. Yes, being forced to go to shore a few times a day is really good for us - otherwise we might just stay on the boat and be lazy!

  3. Hastings seems to be the perfect sized dog for a sailboat! I love how he can make himself comfortable everywhere and how you can pick him up when (or should I say "if"?) he is mischievous!

    1. Dogs are great on boats.... they are so adaptable! And yes, he does have to be picked up. He can be a little too interested in dinner preparation sometimes!
