What Larks!
Stars in the Colorado Desert
It’s not often that we see stars. Light pollution, a bright moon and cloudy skies often conspire to hide the splendor of a night sky. After spending a week with family in New Mexico, we took two nights to drive the San Juan Skyway and visit Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. We got lucky at Mesa Verde and the desert sky was filled with the glory of heaven.

Note: I have 18 photos from Colorado to upload, but with very limited cell / data service, 2 will have to suffice until we can get plugged back in.

The nights here are definitely star-filled, but I think the best star gazing experience I ever had was when we were camping at elevation in Death Valley -- it was amazing!

One of the benefits of land.... stars, and the ability to take photos of them!
DeleteBeautiful, Lucy. I wish you many star-filled skies when sailing the tropics in the future. Although the night sky can be marvelous at sea, my most memorable experiences took place on land as well, in deserts and in the Australian outback. Enjoy your road trip. We are looking forward to heading that way in the fall.
ReplyDeleteI bet it will be beautiful in the Fall with all the autumn colors - something one doesn't get in the Tropics!
